Let's Make a Well!

Hello and Welcome!

Well, Well, Well!

There are several lessons in the Bible
which include the use of a well.
  • Hagar
  • Isaac
  • Jacob
  • Moses helps Zipporah
  • The Exodus
  • Jesus and the Woman at the Well
  • etc.
The lesson that made me want to structure a well was,
Jesus and the Woman at the Well.

Begin by finding a nice size piece of sturdy cardboard or plywood.
Next you will need brown lunch bags.

Lots of scrap stuffing materials
Old paper, plastic grocery bags etc.
Stuff the bags to be your "bricks/stones" for the well.

Hot glue the opening closed.

Make a circle with your stuffed bags and hot glue the bottom layer to the board.
Next, hot glue each level of "bricks" until you get 4 levels high.

Beginning last level.

This is what it should look like before it is painted.

I used spray paint to paint the "bricks or stones".
Then added tulle inside the well
and then added clear blue gift wrap for the water.

We added fake grass a clay pot and some flowers to the outside.

Have fun!

Drift Wood!

Hello and Welcome!

Memory Verse Prop!

To go along with our
"Shipwrecked - Rescued by Jesus"
theme for Vacation Bible School,
I needed a way to have a portable memory verse for each day
so it could be the center of attention when discussed
but then set aside and still be in plain view.

I was asked to make something resembling drift wood.

The only thing I could think of was cardboard.

I had some nice pieces that had been stored just for such a thing
and was able to put them to good use.

Water based paint, water, brushes, cardboard, pencil,
scissors, glue and I was good to go!

I began with brown then covered the brown with white
then brown again, and lastly adding some black,
making sure the layers of color shown through.

I printed the Bible verses onto white paper
and cut close to the letters and numbers
then glued them onto the boards.
Also found a life ring on line and added the words
 - Bible Verse and day 1 - 4.
That way the instructor knew
which verse was for which day.

The City of Palm Trees!

Hello and Welcome!

Deuteronomy 32:1-3

Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.

Trees!

How many of us have fashioned a tree or two for our class room trying to help our students realize that Bible time land was real and had real trees?
Maybe it was the sycamore tree that Zacchaeus climbed, Luke 19:1-10.
Maybe the barren fig tree that withered when Jesus said it would no longer bare any fruit, Matthew 21:18-22
Then there’s always those creation lessons that could use a few different kinds of trees inside our room, Genesis 1:11-12.

Palm Trees!

I want to share how another lady and myself made
palm trees one year for our Vacation Bible School!

We used brown and green bulletin board paper, a pencil, black sharpie marker, and scissors. We stapled them into the wall and used duck tape on the wood.
We laid out and layered the brown paper so as we drew and cut rectangles, there would be more than one tree being cut out at one time. The pieces get smaller as you go up so that it gives the illusion of being very tall . The pieces stacked nicely so they were easy to store until it was time to put them on the walls.

As you can see, we were going to need several palm trees.

After cutting out each piece for the trunk,
we crumpled them up then smoothed them out with our hands
to look more like tree bark.

When it came to cutting the leaves,
we looked up patterns on line
and drew them out as best we could.
Each tree had 4-6 long leaves.
Layer the green paper,
drawn one leaf on top piece of paper,
and cut 5-6 all at once!

Helpers added balls
of the brown paper for coconuts
and crumpled tan paper for the sand.
As you build the trunk of the tree,
 you can tilt the rectangles
to make your tree lean different directions.

Here are more pictures of our "Shipwrecked - Rescued by Jesus" Theme!

I think you will need a tall ladder!

Aiming to Please God

Hello and Welcome!

Sharing a Bible Game!

Psalm 51:1-2
Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And cleanse me from my sin.
It was a Psalm of repentance when King David penned the 51st Psalm.
As much as this man, (a man after God’s own heart) tried to please God, sadly, he failed. He stumbled. He sinned. He missed God’s mark. Thankfully Nathan the prophet helped him realize his way to turn again to God. James 5:19-20
“Repent!” said a young man sitting in the chair next to the game board. He was watching to see if they missed the mark.
In my Bible class, we are studying the 5 Books of Poetry – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon.
The book of Psalms has been most interesting, especially when one of my favorite games was introduced with our lesson about repentance. Aiming to Please God! It’s about preparing ourselves for battle, aiming to please God, missing the mark, Satan’s darts, and repentance!

Important Pieces to the Game!

Ephesians 6 speaks of arming ourselves to stand against the Devil’s schemes. Taking up the shield of faith to be able to extinguish the flaming arrows/darts of the evil/wicked one. But what do we do when a dart gets through?
(A), The first step in the game is where the students must choose a ball that has a positive word and number on it, (ours are wads of brown crumpled up paper, “coconuts” used in The Jungle Journey VBS class one year. Real balls would work very nice and you could use a marker instead of taped on words).
(B), They had to find a scripture with the corresponding word/number that is on their ball to arm themselves with as they aimed to please God. (They have a choice, they can find the corresponding card on the poster and look up one of the verses on the card, or for time sake, find the word/number with a verse already typed out. I think they all chose to read the typed one.)
Arming themselves with scripture against the Devil’s darts!
(C), They stand in line, then aim to “please/obey” God when it is their turn, by aiming their ball to go through the hole in the stand-up board game. If it goes through they pleased/obeyed God! Then they choose a new ball and begin the process again. If they miss, they missed God’s mark/gave in to temptation/sinned and one of the Devil’s darts found a chink in their armor. They must pick up and hold onto the ball they missed with.
Aiming to Please/Obey God!
(D) Then they must find the dart that is laying on the table, with the corresponding number and opposite/negative corresponding word of their ball and scripture and stick the dart on Satan’s Dart Board!

We are Satan's Target!!
(E) Then go and read a Bible verse about repentance – Acts 17:30, then try again.
Aim to please God again with the same ball. If their ball makes it through they pleased/obeyed God and get to take their dart off the board and get a new ball, but if their ball doesn’t make it again, their dart stays up and they must read the repentance verse again and try to aim to please God once again with the same ball.
(Repeat if keep missing the mark. They only get a new ball if they overcome this temptation/ball goes through the hole.)

The game in process.
Please God or Repent!
This process just keeps going and going! We don’t keep score it is just if they please God or not. These students loved it and learned a whole lot about arming themselves with scripture, aiming to please God, Devil’s fiery darts, and repentance.
When King David realized what he had done he was very sorry and asked forgiveness.
Godly sorrow produces repentance, 2 Corinthians 7:8-10.
You will find two repentance charts I use in Bible class that help us understand the concept of repentance in our “Gold Star” visual aids!
This month they include directions to the Aiming to please God game, pictures of my two repentance posters, pleasing words for the balls, corresponding scriptures to arm yourself with, the opposite negative words for the darts, and cards for each pleasing word with more scripture to choose from.

Joseph in the Dry Pit

Hello and Welcome!

Bible Lesson Prop!

"What a great find!"
Actually, I was looking on Pinterest for Joseph activities
and props and came across this "little gem"!
I absolutely love this little pit!
I ended up enlarging it for a teacher prop
and left it the original size for a student take-home.
I wrote out the directions in English to work with the original prop pattern.
