Aiming to Please God

Hello and Welcome!

Sharing a Bible Game!

Psalm 51:1-2
Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And cleanse me from my sin.
It was a Psalm of repentance when King David penned the 51st Psalm.
As much as this man, (a man after God’s own heart) tried to please God, sadly, he failed. He stumbled. He sinned. He missed God’s mark. Thankfully Nathan the prophet helped him realize his way to turn again to God. James 5:19-20
“Repent!” said a young man sitting in the chair next to the game board. He was watching to see if they missed the mark.
In my Bible class, we are studying the 5 Books of Poetry – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon.
The book of Psalms has been most interesting, especially when one of my favorite games was introduced with our lesson about repentance. Aiming to Please God! It’s about preparing ourselves for battle, aiming to please God, missing the mark, Satan’s darts, and repentance!

Important Pieces to the Game!

Ephesians 6 speaks of arming ourselves to stand against the Devil’s schemes. Taking up the shield of faith to be able to extinguish the flaming arrows/darts of the evil/wicked one. But what do we do when a dart gets through?
(A), The first step in the game is where the students must choose a ball that has a positive word and number on it, (ours are wads of brown crumpled up paper, “coconuts” used in The Jungle Journey VBS class one year. Real balls would work very nice and you could use a marker instead of taped on words).
(B), They had to find a scripture with the corresponding word/number that is on their ball to arm themselves with as they aimed to please God. (They have a choice, they can find the corresponding card on the poster and look up one of the verses on the card, or for time sake, find the word/number with a verse already typed out. I think they all chose to read the typed one.)
Arming themselves with scripture against the Devil’s darts!
(C), They stand in line, then aim to “please/obey” God when it is their turn, by aiming their ball to go through the hole in the stand-up board game. If it goes through they pleased/obeyed God! Then they choose a new ball and begin the process again. If they miss, they missed God’s mark/gave in to temptation/sinned and one of the Devil’s darts found a chink in their armor. They must pick up and hold onto the ball they missed with.
Aiming to Please/Obey God!
(D) Then they must find the dart that is laying on the table, with the corresponding number and opposite/negative corresponding word of their ball and scripture and stick the dart on Satan’s Dart Board!

We are Satan's Target!!
(E) Then go and read a Bible verse about repentance – Acts 17:30, then try again.
Aim to please God again with the same ball. If their ball makes it through they pleased/obeyed God and get to take their dart off the board and get a new ball, but if their ball doesn’t make it again, their dart stays up and they must read the repentance verse again and try to aim to please God once again with the same ball.
(Repeat if keep missing the mark. They only get a new ball if they overcome this temptation/ball goes through the hole.)

The game in process.
Please God or Repent!
This process just keeps going and going! We don’t keep score it is just if they please God or not. These students loved it and learned a whole lot about arming themselves with scripture, aiming to please God, Devil’s fiery darts, and repentance.
When King David realized what he had done he was very sorry and asked forgiveness.
Godly sorrow produces repentance, 2 Corinthians 7:8-10.
You will find two repentance charts I use in Bible class that help us understand the concept of repentance in our “Gold Star” visual aids!
This month they include directions to the Aiming to please God game, pictures of my two repentance posters, pleasing words for the balls, corresponding scriptures to arm yourself with, the opposite negative words for the darts, and cards for each pleasing word with more scripture to choose from.

Joseph in the Dry Pit

Hello and Welcome!

Bible Lesson Prop!

"What a great find!"
Actually, I was looking on Pinterest for Joseph activities
and props and came across this "little gem"!
I absolutely love this little pit!
I ended up enlarging it for a teacher prop
and left it the original size for a student take-home.
I wrote out the directions in English to work with the original prop pattern.

The Creation!

Hello and welcome!

Sharing a Bible Lesson with You!

We are so highly blessed
to have planet earth that was created
to sustain us!
How did it all come to be?
God created it, Himself!

Some Bible verses to think about.

In the beginning God created
 the heaven and the earth.

John 1:3
All things were made by Him,
and without Him was not anything
made that was made.

Romans 1:21
For the invisible things of Him
from the creation of the world
are clearly seen,
being understood by
the things that are made,
even His eternal power
and Godhead; so that they are
without excuse.

Job 26:7
He stretcheth out the north
So over the empty place,
and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the firmament shows His handiwork.

- Laying some groundwork -

3. The Bible tells us there is one God
God is described as many things
but 1 John 1:5 describes God as Light!

4. There is one God nature
(Deity - meaning God)
There is one human nature.

5. One God nature - but 3 share that nature.
Father - Matthew 6:9
Holy Spirit - John 15:26; Genesis 1:2
Word/Son/Jesus - John 1:1-3, 14; Genesis 1-2 (God said...)

8. The creation. Genesis 1:2a
The earth was without form
and darkness was on the face of the deep.

_____________________________________

And the Spirit of God was
hovering over the face of the waters.

_____________________________________

10. Day 1- Genesis 1:3a
Then God said, (remember the Word?)
"Let there be light."
And there was light!
And God saw the light, that is was good!
(Hold up sign - Good!)

_____________________________________

11. Day 1 Continued - Genesis 1:4b-5
God divided the light from the darkness.
God called the light Day
and the darkness He called Night.
So the evening and the morning
were the 1st day.

___________________________________

12. Day 2 - Genesis 1:6-8
Then God said,
"Let there be a firmament
in the midst of the waters,
and let it divide
the waters from the waters."
Thus God made the firmament
and divided the waters
which were under
the firmament from the water
which were above
the firmament, and it was so.
God called the firmament Heaven.
So the evening and the
morning were the 2nd day.

(The firmament is the space or expanse
between the clouds of mist and the seas.
Water above and below.)

13. Day 3 - Genesis 1:9-10
Then God said,
"Let the waters under the heavens be
gathered together
into one place and let the dry land appear,
and it was so.
And God called the dry land earth
and the gathering together
of the waters He called seas.
And God saw that it was good.
(Hold up sign - Good!)

_____________________________________

14. Day 3 Continued - Genesis 2:5-6
Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth,
and no plant of the field had yet sprouted,
for the Lord God had
not sent rain upon the earth,
and there was no man to cultivate
(work up) the ground.
But a mist used to rise from the earth
and watered the whole surface of the ground.

_____________________________________

15. Day 3 Continued - Genesis 1:11-13
Then God said,
"Let the earth bring forth grass,
the herb that yields seed,
and the fruit tree that yields fruit
according to it's kind,
 whose seed is in itself,
on the earth, and it was so.
And the earth brought forth grass,
the herb that yields seed,
according to its kind,
and the tree that yields fruit
whose see is in itself according to its kind.
And God saw that it was good.
(Hold up sign)
So the evening and the morning
were the 3rd day.
(The seed would be able to be planted
and would bring forth new plants.)

____________________________________

16. Day 4 - Genesis 1:14-19
Then God said,
"Let there be lights
in the firmament of the heavens
to divide the day from the night,
and let them be for signs
and seasons and for days and years.
And let them be for lights
in the firmament of the heavens
to give light on the earth."
And it was so.
God created time!!
___________________________________

17. Day 4 Continued
Then God made 2 great lights.
The greater light to rule the day
and the lesser light to rule the night.

_____________________________________

18. Day 4 Continued
He made the stars also!
He counts the number of the stars;
He gives names to all of them.
Great is our Lord
and abundant in strength;
His understanding is infinite.
"To infinity and beyond!"

___________________________________

19. Day 4 Continued
God set them (the lights)
in the firmament of the heavens
to give light on the earth
and to rule over the day and over the night
and to divide the light from the darkness.
And God saw that it was good.
(Hold up sign)
So the evening and the morning
were the 4th day.

20. Day 5 - Genesis 1:20-23
Then God said,
"Let the waters abound
with an abundance of living creatures
and let birds fly
above the earth across the face
of the firmament of the heavens."

___________________________________

21. Day 5 Continued
So God created great sea creatures
and every living thing that moves,
with which the water abounded,
according to their kind,

__________________________________

22. Day 5 Continued
...and every winged bird according to its kind.
And God saw that it was good! (Hold up sign)
And He blessed them saying,
"Be fruitful and multiply
and fill all the waters in the seas,
and let the birds multiply on the earth."
So the evening and the morning were the 5th day.
(A 24 hour day.)

____________________________________

Then God said,
"Let the earth bring forth (out of the ground)
the living creature according to its kind:
Cattle, creeping thing, and beast of the earth,
(even dinosaurs)
each according to its kind."
And it was so...
And God saw that it was good!
(Hold up sign)

____________________________________

24. Day 6 Continued - Genesis 1:26
Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image
according to Our likeness
- Us
- Our
- Our
(Remember in picture #5,
the 3 that share the nature of God?
They make up the "Us" and "Our"
that is being spoken of.)

____________________________________

God made mankind/humans
different from the animals.
God gave humans a living soul
that will live forever!
(Velcro/tape clear transparency shapes
from the back of page to the people
on the front of the page
to appear like a soul.)

Let them, (male and female)
have dominion (rule)
over the fish of the sea,
over the birds of the air,
and over cattle, over all
the earth and over
every creeping thing
that creeps on the earth."

(So humans are made above the animals.
The first man and woman were made
on the same day as the animals,
living together at the same time.)

___________________________________

25. Day 6 Continued - Genesis 2:7
Genesis 2 tells us the way
God created the first man/male.
First the Lord God formed man
of the dust from the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living being.
(show dirt from ground)

__________________________________

26. Day 6 Continued - Genesis 2:8-9
The Lord God planted a garden
toward the east, in Eden;
and there He place the man
whom He had formed.
 Our of the ground
the Lord God caused to grow
every tree that is pleasing to the sight
and good for food...

_____________________________________

27. Day 6 Continued
...the Tree of Life also in the
midst of the garden,
and the Tree of the Knowledge
of Good and Evil.
The man was put into the garden
to cultivate it and keep it.
The Lord God commanded the man,
saying, "From any tree of the garden
you may eat freely;
but from the Tree of the
Knowledge of Good and Evil
you shall not eat,
for in the day that you eat
from it you will surely die."

(God gave the man a job,
rules and a choice.

He gives us the same.
Have you ever suffered
consequences for not
following rules?
What was the consequences
if the man ate the forbidden fruit?)

_____________________________________

28. Explanation of - Surely Die
Surely die - The same day he would eat of it he would surely die.
Not physically in the same day, but spiritually.

If the man decides to disobey God,
then this disobedience/sin would come between the man and God.

When we are separated from God, (the Light) by sin, we die,
 it is called spiritual death

____________________________________

29. Explanation Continued
A flower, when it is separated
from the light it needs,
it withers and dies.
___________________________________

30. Explanation Continued
Sin is defined as missing the mark.
This disobedience/sin would be a problem between God and the man.
But God has a plan that would help this sin problem so the relationship between God and whoever sinned could be fixed.
We will learn of this plan in a later lesson.

27. Day 6 Continued - Genesis 2:18-19
Then the Lord God said,
"It is not good for the man to be alone;
I will make him a helper suitable for him."
Out of the ground the Lord God
formed every beast of the field,
and every bird of the sky,
and brought them to the man
to see what he would call them;
and whatever the man called a living creature,
that was it's name.
The man gave names to all the cattle,
birds, and to every beast of the field,
but for Adam there was not a helper suitable for him.
(God named the man Adam.)

___________________________________

28. Day 6 Continued - Genesis 2:21
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep
to fall upon the man,
and he slept; then He took one of his ribs
and closed up the flesh at that place.

___________________________________

29. Day 6 Continued - Genesis 2:22-25
The Lord God fashioned into a woman,
the rib which He had taken from the man,
and brought her to the man.
The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones,
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called woman
because she was taken out of man.

(The man seemed pleased with his gift,
the woman/helper God had made for him.)

For this reason a man shall
leave his father and his mother,
and be joined to his wife;
and they shall become one flesh.
And the man and his wife
were both naked and were not ashamed.

So God created man in His own image,
in the image of God He created him.
Male and female He created them
(This is still the 6th day.)

___________________________________

30. Day 6 Continued - Genesis 1:28-30
Then God blessed them and God said to them,
"Be fruitful and multiply; (have children)
and fill the earth and
subdue/tame/have dominion /authority
over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air,
and over every living thing
that moves on the earth.

(Paraphrase of Vs. 29-30)
God told them
that He had given to them
herbs and fruit trees for food.
God had also given the herbs
to every beast of the earth,
birds, and creeping thing.

I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
and that my soul knows very well.

31. Day 6 Ends - Genesis 1:31
Then God saw everything that He had made
and indeed it was VERY GOOD.
(Hold up sign)
So the evening and the morning were the 6th day.

_________________________________

Day 7 - Genesis 2:1-3
Thus the heavens and the earth
and all the host of them were finished.
(6 days)
And on the 7th day God ended His work
which He had done
and rested on the 7th day
from all His work which He had done.
Then God blessed the 7th day
and sanctified it/made it holy,
because in it He rested from all His work
which God had created and made.
